I came to the U.S. from Haiti. At night, I cleaned offices. During the day, I took care of my children. I always wanted to start a small business, but I didn’t know how to start, what type of business to create, or who could help me.

Everything changed when a friend introduced me to Ms. Salisbury. From our first conversation, I felt understood and supported. She helped me find a business idea that I love and that fits my life. She also taught me how to register my business and apply for my first grant.

Now, I sell self-care products to women in my community and online. I also just opened an apartment for rent in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti. Thanks to Salisbury Wealth Academy, I feel proud of what I am building — and I believe that other women like me can do the same”.

I have been braiding hair since I came to the U.S. from Senegal. Ms. Salisbury has been my client for many years. In 2021, during the COVID pandemic, I told her that I wanted to open my own salon. But I didn’t have enough money or knowledge to start. Ms. Salisbury helped me through each step, from starting my business to applying for grants and finding money.

Now, I am happy to own a nice salon in Harlem, where I rent chairs to other women in my community. The Salisbury Wealth Academy gives women like me the support we need.

I have been a nanny and housekeeper since moving to the U.S. from Colombia, and I have always had a passion for cooking. I met Ms. Salisbury at school; her son attends the same school as the children I care for. When I shared my dream of starting a food business with her, she encouraged me to take the first step and begin part-time meal preparation, guiding me every step of the way.

Now, I run my own meal planning business with the help of my mom and niece, all while continuing my work as a nanny. This experience has truly been life-changing for me and has provided for my family.
